Image Processing (general)
Who may attend the course? Engineering Students (Comp. Sc, IT, Electronics and others) Teachers & Industry participants Budding Researchers and Technology enthusiasts
And others who want to build a career in Image Processing or want to pursue higher studies (MS) in the related field and fulfill the following prerequisites of the coursework.
Prerequisites: Engineering Mathematics Basic knowledge of Signal Processing Basic programming knowledge in C/C++ or Java
Experience in Linux environment is a Plus Strong motivation to learn a new technology is a must Creativity in thinking and problem solving is essential Proficiency in English is desired.
Objective:
A significant increase in image processing activity has been noticed in recent years. In the past decade, image processing field has expanded its remit from research to main stream industries, including, automotive, industrial automation, security and biometric identity, traffic management, medical imaging etc. This course introduces the fundamentals of image processing and often relates to the real life application scenarios. This course will answer one of the major imaging questions: how to extract meaningful information from an image and this is a key question in various applications, such as, when a robotic vision is necessary for industrial manufacturing, when a CCTV footage requires intelligent analysis to report an unwanted event, or when a medical image needs to detect abnormal tissues. During the tenure of the course, students will learn the motivation and mathematics of the algorithms while implement them in either C/C++ or JAVA programming environment.
Course Outline: Refresher: Digital Signal Processing
Building up the Motivation: Demonstration of Image Processing examples and software application of image processing algorithms (by the Instructor)
Introduction to image processing Image representation Image enhancement Image segmentation
Morphological image processing Linear processing and filtering Image transforms and multi-resolution image processing Feature extraction and detection
